Every toll station in Norway is automated, and tolls are collected through AutoPASS: there are no booths, and each number plate is photographed by camera. For a car with no tag or account, an invoice for the regular toll is posted to the vehicle’s owner, and foreign-registered vehicles are not exempt. Registering the car before the trip with the online service AutoPASS names for foreign vehicles avoids the fee for looking up a foreign owner and, where rates depend on fuel type, gets the right rate. An AutoPASS tag earns discounts but has to be ordered in advance, since light vehicles cannot get one at the border.
Fjellinjen runs the toll stations that ring Greater Oslo, with rates that vary by fuel type and time of day. On the outermost ring, at the city border, you pay only on the way into Oslo.
