Before you fly

Driving to the airport: Ireland

Ireland drives on the left, and Dublin Airport sits just off the M1, north of the city. The M50, the motorway around Dublin, carries a barrier-free toll on the stretch between Blanchardstown and Lucan, collected without booths: overhead cameras capture each number plate. Unless you have a toll tag or an eFlow video account, you pay online, by phone or at a Payzone outlet soon after the trip, and late payment carries penalties. The toll applies to every road user, tourists included; in a hire car, ask the rental company who pays it.

Every other Irish toll road keeps barrier toll plazas that take cash, cards or toll tags. On routes to the airport, these include the Dublin Tunnel, which links the docklands with the M1 south of the airport and charges cars more at weekday peak times, and the M1 toll on the Dublin–Belfast route north of the airport.
